(1982) Clad only in her fur coat, Dominique Sanda’s left impotent husband Michel Piccoli, while mother Baroness Danielle Darrieux is left holding the bag when her boarder, steelworker Richard Berry, leaves the apartment for the strike-ridden streets of Nantes — even as Berry’s semi-girlfriend Fabienne Guyon waits to give him some special news. But when Sanda and Berry meet by chance… Demy’s second all-sung musical is a polar opposite of his Umbrellas of Cherbourg (see Oct. 18-24 below), really a tragic opera acted and sung against a background of street scenes of labor unrest.
