(1963, Don Chaffey) In quest of the fabled Golden Fleece, Jason and the men of the Argo battle a Bronze Colossus, airborne Harpies, and perhaps Harryhausen’s most astonishing technical achievement: a seven-man squad of sword-wielding skeletons, underscored by Bernard Herrmann’s percussive dissonance. Shown with George Pal’s Date with Duke (1947), with Duke Ellington performing his “Perfume Suite,” as a stop-motion animated character dances on his keyboard.
