Dramatic Reading of the Lost Pre-Code Comedy!
Most notorious of Pre-Code movies, CONVENTION CITY (1933) -- the last film from a major Hollywood studio to be completely lost -- leeringly depicted the sexual shenanigans of Atlantic City conventioneers and their frisky gold-digging hangers-on, with a cast that included Joan Blondell, Adolphe Menjou, and Dick Powell. Accompanied by stock footage (the only existing film actually shot for the picture), a complete set of still photographs, and live musical accompaniment by period specialist Peter Mintun, the final shooting script will be re-created tonight by fifteen actors, including five Boardwalk Empire veterans. Produced by Bruce Goldstein. Directed by Allen Lewis Rickman. Approx. 100 min.
